Long Tail Keywords

Long Tail Keywords…I will start out by explaining what they are and then I will give you a checklist of what to do with them for better SEO on your site.

Long Tail Keywords are keyword phrases that are 3 (or preferably 4) words or more.

For example, a keyword would be the word “shoes”

A longer variation of that keyword would be “men’s shoes”

Long tail keywords would be “men’s dress shoes”, “men’s leather dress shoes”, “men’s black leather dress shoes made in Italy”, I think you get the pattern here.

So, what to do with the long tail keywords you have chosen for your niche? (Remember to do proper keyword research first!)

  • Use long tail keywords for about 20-40% of your anchor texts linking back to your website
  • Use long tail keywords on your blog pages and posts for easier ranking on Google’s top 10
  • Use long tail keywords within your ezine articles and other article marketing efforts

Long tail keywords help you harvest the low-hanging fruit in internet marketing. In other words, the 1 or 2-word keywords have such high competition from established mega-websites, that you could spend years trying to rank for them. Instead, go for the low-hanging fruit. There’s a lot out there just waiting to be harvested. By you…

Happy harvesting!
